An Arkansas woman is being hailed as a heroine after she stopped to aid an officer being attacked by an intoxicated illegal alien during a recent traffic stop that ended in a shooting, according to authorities.
On Wednesday, Arkansas State Police (ASP) released footage of the harrowing incident, which unfolded on July 27 in Benton County.
ASP Trooper Alexandria Duncan observed a Toyota C-HR pass her traveling 114 mph in heavy traffic on I-49.
Trooper Duncan gave pursuit and activated her siren and emergency lights, but the driver continued onward for some time before finally pulling onto the shoulder.

Duncan can be seen walking up to the vehicle, which was driven by 26-year-old Angel Zapet-Alvarado, a Guatemalan citizen who is illegally present in the U.S.
She quickly opened Zapet-Alvarado’s door and ordered him to get out.
“Trooper Duncan observed Zapet-Alvarado with his hand on the gearshift and stopped him from driving away in the vehicle by taking his keys. He ignored commands to exit the vehicle and resisted Trooper Duncan’s efforts to remove him. She deployed her taser when he refused to comply. Zapet-Alvarado wrestled the Trooper’s taser from her hands and threw it into interstate traffic,” ASP explained in a press release.
Local resident Kylie Sutton, 31, saw Trooper Duncan struggling with the suspect and pulled over to help.
The Good Samaritan attempted to return Duncan’s taser to her, but the suspect managed to gain the upper hand and climb on top of the trooper.
Sutton intervened and afforded Duncan the opportunity to discharge a round from her service weapon that reportedly grazed Zapet-Alvarado’s head.
Backup arrived and Zapet-Alvarado was finally restrained.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and released to ASP custody.
A toxicology report indicates Zapet-Alvarado’s blood-alcohol level was .16 and cannabinoids were present in his bloodstream.

“I wholeheartedly support Trooper Duncan. We tell our Troopers to trust their instincts and lean into their experience and training when they’re on the highways. Anyone who has walked in a Trooper’s boots knows that trusting your gut keeps you safe so that you can protect and serve the public. In our world, hesitation can get you killed,” ASP Col. Mike Hagar said in a statement.
“I thank God that He gave Alex the strength to survive that encounter, and that He put Kylie by her side when she needed support the most. I’m so proud of them both.”
