A high school valedictorian making headlines for a speech defending the right to kill unborn babies in the womb received praise from Hillary Clinton.
Graduating senior Paxton Smith had a speech pre-approved by school officials ahead of the graduation ceremony held last Sunday at Lake Highlands High School in Richardson, Texas.
But Smith pulled a fast one on stage, swapping her speech mid-ceremony for one criticizing Texas’ “heartbeat bill,” which protects the life of an unborn baby after a heartbeat can be detected, usually around 6 weeks into a pregnancy. The bill was signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) last week.
Smith claimed the law protecting babies in the womb was a declaration of war against women.
“I cannot give up this platform to promote complacency and peace when there is a war on my body and a war on my rights. A war on the rights of your mothers, a war on the rights of your sisters, a war on the rights of your daughters. We cannot stay silent,” Smith said.
“I have dreams and hopes and ambition. Every girl graduating today does. We have spent our entire lives working towards our future, and without our input and without our consent, our control over that future has been stripped away from us. I am terrified that if my contraceptives fail, I am terrified that if I am raped, then my hopes and aspirations and dreams and efforts for my future will no longer matter. I hope that you can feel how gut-wrenching that is, I hope that you can feel how dehumanizing it is, to have the autonomy over your own body taken from you.”
The irony is Smith does not take into consideration how “dehumanizing” it is for an unborn baby to have the autonomy over its own body taken from it.
After her speech, Smith was showered with praise by the left-leaning mainstream media and liberal politicians alike, including two-time Democrat presidential loser Hillary Clinton.
“This took guts. Thank you for not staying silent, Paxton,” Clinton told the graduating senior.
