Trump’s appointment of Kash Patel as FBI Director will finally provide an answer to the burning question of how many FBI agents were present at the Capitol on 6 January 2021, according to Rep. Mike Collins.

Collins Tweeted in response to Trump’s announcement, “How many FBI agents were present for J6? We’re about to find out.”

Since the events at the Capitol on 6 January 2021, there has been intense interest in the possibility that agents provocateurs were at the Capitol, guiding protesters to enter the building and encouraging them to commit vandalism and violence.

There has been particular focus on a man called Ray Epps, who did exactly those things and was convicted for his part in the day’s events.

This week, he lost a defamation battle against Fox News over claims the network spun a “fantastical story” about him being an undercover agent for the FBI tasked with encouraging violence.

Epps was sentenced to just one year of probation and a $500 fine, despite there being significant amounts of video evidence of him encouraging protesters to enter the Capitol.

Kash Patel has been a longtime critic of the FBI. He has called for closing the agency’s Washington headquarters, replacing top leadership, and bringing the nation’s law enforcement agencies “to heel.”

Patel has said he also intends to pursue government officials who leak information to reporters, and change the law to make it easier to sue journalists. During an interview with Steve Bannon last year, Patel said he and others “will go out and find the conspirators not just in government but in the media.”

In his announcement of the appointment, Trump called Patel a “brilliant lawyer, investigator, and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People.”

“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” Trump added.
