A U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) agent was assaulted and bitten in the face by an illegal alien during an encounter on a dangerous mountain in New Mexico this week, according to reports.

The incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon near Sunland Park on Mount Cristo Rey, known locally as “Cartel Mountain” — a hotbed of rampant criminal activity and human smuggling.

Four male illegals were observed crossing over the mountain from Mexico and when a USBP agent confronted them, a struggle ensued.

“A U.S. Border Patrol Agent assigned to the Santa Teresa Station responded to a group of undocumented non-citizens that had crossed the border illegally in the Sunland Park area near the Monument 2 border marker,” USBP explained in a statement to Border Report.

“While taking the undocumented non-citizens into custody, the agent was physically assaulted and bitten by one of the undocumented non-citizens. The agent received non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local medical facility for evaluation. One subject has been arrested for assault and was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation.”

Sources told Border Report the agent had been punched and bitten in the face and head.

Three of the illegals managed to escape back to Mexico but were picked up by local authorities in Anapra, a destitute squatter settlement in the city of Juarez.

Chihuahua police reportedly presented one of the suspects for USBP agents to identify during a meeting after the assault.

Signage in the parking lot of Mount Cristo Rey advises prospective hikers to notify Sunland Park police before embarking on a climb.

“Due to the proximity of Mexico on the Southern edge of the mountain, visitors are cautioned to not climb alone and always go in groups. Vandalism, assaults and robberies are still an ongoing problem and visitors are encouraged to visit on days when organized events are being held and security is on site,” an alert on the Mt. Cristo Rey website states.

Referring to criminal networks and illegal migrants taking control of the mountain, Border Patrol agents recently asserted, “It’s not ours. It’s theirs.”

Reporters with immigration news outlet Border Hawk recently climbed the mountain multiple times and witnessed an endless stream of illegals making their way into Sunland Park with the assistance of ‘coyotes’ and ‘falcones’ – cartel operatives who guide migrants on their journey into the U.S.

Chaos unfolds constantly along the U.S.-Mexico border, as Infowars regularly reports.
