An illegal alien is facing a slew of charges after he allegedly crashed into a juvenile moped rider while driving drunk, then dumped the critically-injured boy in a ditch and fled the scene last week in Missouri, authorities say.
The horrifying hit-and-run unfolded just before 9 p.m. on Saturday night in Carthage, a small city in Jasper County near the Kansas border.
A 17-year-old boy identified as Braxton Thrasher was riding a moped in a residential neighborhood when he was struck head-on by a Chevrolet Equinox.
The driver continued onward for more than 400 feet with Thrasher’s body on the hood before stopping to remove the teen and abandon his body in a ditch, along with damaged parts from the vehicle.
A nearby resident alerted the Carthage Police Department (CPD) and Thrasher was rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, CPD announced the arrest of a suspect identified as 43-year-old Miguel Gaspar-Diaz, an illegal alien who resides in Joplin, MO.
Authorities were able to locate the damaged vehicle at Gaspar-Diaz’s residence.
“The male at the residence, who was later identified as Miguel Gaspar-Diaz, initially said that he had struck a deer on 11/25/24 and had not been to Carthage,” CPD explained in a probable cause statement.
“During a subsequent interview with Gaspar-Diaz, he admitted to drinking alcohol at a friend’s house in Carthage prior to the accident. Gasper-Diaz admitted to hitting the juvenile male victim with his vehicle and driving a few hundred feet before stopping and removing the juvenile male victim from the hood of his car and placing him in the ditch. Gasper-Diaz admitted to then fleeing the scene without attempting to contact law enforcement or exchange information with the other party involved.”

Gaspar-Diaz was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, second-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence in felony prosecution, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway when roadway was of sufficient width, resulting in an accident.
The illegal alien is being held without bond and Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified.

His mom is a single mom with 2 teenage girls at home. She is gonna need help financially to get gas to go back and forth, food, and to help keep bills paid. He is going to be in the hospital for awhile and this is such a rough time. Big chance that they will be spending Christmas in the hospital as well. Anything helps. Definitely needs lots of prayers.
