An illegal alien staying at an asylum shelter in New York City was stabbed by a suspect trying to steal his cell phone in broad daylight this week, according to reports.

The incident unfolded at around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Manhattan.

The victim, a 29-year-old male illegal migrant of undisclosed nationality, was talking on a cell phone near Penn Station when he was approached from behind by a male suspect who tried to grab the device.

The suspect demanded the victim hand over the phone and then stabbed him in the back and slashed him across the arm when he refused, authorities told the New York Post.

The attacker fled the scene and was reportedly still on the loose as of Wednesday night.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital and listed in stable condition.

“He is a resident of a building formerly used by Touro College, which now houses migrants and is located at the same intersection where the assault took place,” the Post reports, citing police sources.

More than 110,000 illegal migrants have arrived in New York City since last year, the majority of whom are likely seeking safer living conditions.
