Judge Jack McConnell, who halted Trump’s spending freeze, received well over $100 million in government money for his NGO.
America First Legal uncovered evidence that Crossroads Rhode Island, a non-profit McConnell chaired for over a decade, received $128 million from the government.
Last year alone, Crossroads received over $18.6 million in government grants, over half of its $30 million in revenue.
Between 2020 and 2023, it received $42 million in government grants.
As the Gateway Pundit notes, “Federal law requires judges to disqualify themselves ‘in any proceeding in which (their) impartiality might reasonably be questioned.’”
Federal law (28 U.S.C. § 455) states that judges must disqualify themselves from any proceeding in which their impartiality may be questioned.
McConnell’s decision to reverse Trump’s executive order on government spending means that taxpayer money will continue to reach Crossroads. In 2025, it has already received nearly $3 million.
In the last week, McConnell claimed the Trump administration has been violating his order.
“The broad categorical and sweeping freeze of federal funds is, as the Court found, likely unconstitutional and has caused and continues to cause irreparable harm to a vast portion of this country,” McConnell ruled.
“These pauses in funding violate the plain text of the [order].”
He has hinted at contempt proceedings for officials he deems to have breached his order.
