Update (Aug. 2, 3:23PM): Following his statement Thursday night, Rittenhouse issued a message Friday saying he spoke with “Trump’s team” and understands he’s a “strong ally gun owners need to defend our Second Amendment rights.”

“My comments made last night were ill-informed and unproductive. I’m 100% behind Donald Trump and encourage every gun owner to join me in helping send him back to the White House.”

Original story appears below…

Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted after shooting and killing two BLM rioters in self defense, stoked controversy Thursday with an announcement declaring he won’t vote for President Donald Trump, who he previously supported.

Rittenhouse’s announcement came as he said he would write-in former congressman Ron Paul rather than vote for Trump, who he says has a terrible record on gun rights.

“I will be writing in Ron Paul,” Rittenhouse confirmed.

“Unfortunately, Donald Trump had bad advisers making him bad on the Second Amendment, and that is my issue. If you cannot be completely uncompromisable on the Second Amendment, I will not vote for you and I will write somebody else in.

“We need champions for the Second Amendment or our rights will be eaten away and eroded each day,” Rittenhouse added.

The “Kenosha Kid” followed up his statement with a post outlining the missteps Trump’s made on gun rights.

Rittenhouse’s disavowal of Trump took social media by surprise, with many conservatives disowning the staunch gun rights advocate.

Some turned their attention to the account Rittenhouse’s video emanated from, noting “Dudley Brown” appears to be a “serial Trump hater.”

Others came to Rittenhouse’s defense, and were upset their MAGA counterparts were so quick to abandon him after he stood up for the right to self defense.

Liberals also began circulating a fake Donald Trump Truth Social post claiming the former president would like to throw Rittenhouse in jail over his betrayal.

It was not too long ago Rittenhouse was floated as a replacement to the Secret Service following their failure to stop an assassination attempt at Trump’s Butler, Penn., event.

It remains to be seen whether Trump supporters can look past Rittenhouse’s criticisms of Trump’s spotty record on the Second Amendment and continue to see him as a fellow brother in arms.
