In the wake of the Highland Park, Illinois mass shooting on the 4th of July, Americans began asking questions about the role Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) play in mass shootings.
SSRIs are antidepressants and anxiety medicines that have been used by dozens of mass shooters in the past couple of decades.
A tweet by Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) on Tuesday asked, “When are we going to talk about drugs and SSRI’s? When are they going to release the shooters records?”

Professional bodybuilder Marc Lobliner wrote, “We need SSRI control, not gun control.”
Gateway Pundit writer Cassandra MacDonald noted the correlation between mass shooters and SSRIs and caught the attention of DC Examiner Trending News Editor Julia Johnson, who wrote, “It’s a very sad day when people attack treatments for anxiety and depression as a driver of mass shootings rather than the broader unique sociological issues our culture is facing.”
Johnson then confidently claimed, “SSRIs are not turning anyone into a killer.”

Of course, even the warning labels on antidepressants in The United States note that “anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, impulsivity, akathisia (psychomotor restlessness), hypomania, and mania have been reported in adult and pediatric patients.”
A self-described “drug expert” named Ryan Marino told his followers, “There are no drugs or medications that cause people to shoot guns or commit murder.”
In response to this bizarre claim, a Twitter user asked, “So the FDA is lying?” along with a screenshot from the FDA-approved medication guide for the SSRI drug Lexapro.
The FDA guide tells patients taking Lexapro to call their doctors if they experience “dangerous impulses, acting aggressive or violent, thoughts about suicide or dying.”

Human Events editor Jack Posobiec posted an article on Twitter highlighting 37 school shootings or school-related violence committed by people on prescription pills.

Infowars has been at the forefront of exposing the connection between Big Pharma “suicide mass murder pills” and violent acts.
In 2013, Alex Jones went on the air to debate Piers Morgan about the Second Amendment in what turned out to be a historic interview.
In the epic appearance, Jones pointed out mainstream media covers up for the SSRIs because they are the main sponsors paying networks for advertising.
“How about Prozac?” he asked. “That whole class of drugs is the big sponsor. Gotta cut that off don’t you? The number one cause of death is suicide now because they give people suicide mass murder pills. Your answer is give more money to the psychiatrists and psychologists to put more crazy people on drugs that make them kill people!”
As the SSRIs started to trend on Twitter, the left came out in droves to defend the Big Pharma products.
MacDonald accurately noted, “I remember when the left actually challenged big pharma, before COVID scared them into insanity.”
The majority of people defending the pills online say they’re actively taking them and absurdly suggest people are saying everyone taking SSRIs is a mass killer.
Psychologist here. Yep. And far more women take SSRIs than men and yet women never commit mass shootings. The SSRI hypothesis has absolutely no scientific support. Quite the contrary, SSRIs save lives.
