London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Thursday labeled critics of the proposed expansion of a green initiative that penalizes drivers as “far-right” and said they’re now grouped with “Covid deniers” and “vaccine deniers.”
The plan is to expand the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which charges drivers in vehicles weighing over 3.5 tons £12.50 daily for driving within the zone.
The proposed August expansion of ULEZ would mean taxing larger vehicles to drive throughout the entire city of London.
As protesters opposing the idea gathered outside, Khan told the “People’s Question Time” audience the demonstrators are “part of a far-right group.”
This accusation caused the audience to erupt with jeers as they voiced their disagreement.
“Let’s be Frank, let’s call a spade a spade,” the mayor said as he was shouted at by the crowd. “Some of those outside are part of the far-right. Some are Covid deniers, some are vaccine deniers and some are Tories.”
After this statement, Khan was hardly able to continue due to the outrage of the attendees of the event.
Pushing his guilty-by-association narrative, the London mayor said, “Some of you have got good reason to oppose ULEZ but you’re in coalition with Covid deniers, you’re in coalition…”
He couldn’t finish the sentence because the crowd again shouted in anger, but he added, “You may not like it, but you’re in coalition with the far-right and you’re in coalition with vaccine deniers as well.”
Demonstrators outside the Khan speech said the move is part of the “UN agenda” to ultimately control citizen travel.
Mainstream media rag the Evening Standard reported, “Several protesters outside the town hall cited conspiracy theories about ’15-minute cities’ and the supposed introduction of ‘social credit systems’ in Britain.”
Of course, the city of Oxford in the UK openly promotes 15-minute cities as a vision for 2040.
Khan’s divisive remarks caused a stir online, with former UK politician Henry Bolton calling him “an appalling man.”
