Mental Health Expert: ‘Level of Psychological Distress’ in UK Has Doubled Since COVID Began

We should learn never to have lockdowns again because the human cost is enormous. I don't think there is much scientific basis to have them in the first place

UK society is suffering “twice” the level of “psychological distress” since the onset of the COVID crisis, according to a clinical psychologist.

Professor Marcantonio Spada, Dean of London South Bank University’s School of Applied Sciences, explained that overall mental health has dramatically declined compared to pre-pandemic levels.

“We’re probably, compared to pre-pandemic levels, we have twice the level of psychological distress,” he told GB News. “It peaked around about March, April, May 2021, when we were around about two and a half times higher than pre-pandemic levels.”

Spada blamed the mainstream media and UK government for “fear mongering” about COVID-19.

“We know what’s happened. There was fear mongering on the part of media and government, which include increased anxiety responses surrounding the virus,” he said.

He also cited the lockdowns as a devastating policy decision that led to a collapse in mental and physical health.

“We don’t know the longterm effects of that. It could fuel obsessive compulsive disorder, health anxiety,” Spada said. “Then we had the lockdowns that decimated social networks, parts of the economy. And also meant that people were home alone and starting to engage in all sorts of unhelpful behaviors, alcohol use, gambling, gaming, etc.”

Spada said that lockdowns should never be considered an option again in any circumstance due to their lack of scientific efficacy and the high human cost.

“We should learn never to have lockdowns again because the human cost is enormous. I don’t think there is much scientific basis to have them in the first place. We didn’t really have them in the past with pandemics which were probably far more serious than the one we went through,” he said, adding people should not be “scared into submission” by their respective governments.

Spada suggested that people begin re-establishing daily routines and reconnecting with loved ones to reduce the massive stress they accumulated during the pandemic, and to re-evaluate their economic situation to deal with the rising inflation.

An April 2022 study found that 60,000 children in the UK suffered clinical depression as a result of the lockdowns.

An additional 400,000 British children were referred to mental health specialists last year for things like eating disorders and self-harm.

This comes as the latest Twitter Files reveal that the U.S. government colluded with Twitter to censor official narratives surrounding COVID, including the experimental vaccine, alternative treatments, dissent against the lockdowns and masks, and even experts and physicians who didn’t go along with CDC recommendations.

Spada’s remarks highlight how those who vehemently promoted lockdowns, while demanding voices of dissent be silenced, were on the wrong side of history.
