Two members of a dangerous Central American gang were recently captured on the same day at the northern and southern U.S. borders.
On Nov. 22, federal immigration authorities arrested illegal aliens belonging to Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) in Buffalo, NY, and some 2,500 miles away in Southern California.
U.S. Border Patrol agents in San Diego Sector apprehended a group of illegal border crossers at around 3:15 a.m. and brought them to Chula Vista Station for processing.
One adult male provided false biographical information and claimed he was from Mexico.
However, further investigation revealed the man was actually a 32-year-old citizen of El Salvador with ties to MS-13.
He was held in Department of Homeland Security custody pending expedited removal to his home country.
Also on Nov. 22, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers encountered an MS-13 gangbanger at a Canadian border crossing in New York.
Franklyn Hernandez Giron, a 24-year-old citizen of Honduras, made a wrong turn and ended up on the Peace Bridge, which connects Buffalo with Fort Erie, Ontario, according to CBP.
Hernandez Giron was unable to produce a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative compliant document at the primary inspection area and was referred for secondary inspection, where officers discovered he is a known MS-13 gang member.
He was taken into custody and processed to face removal proceedings.
