An illegal alien and known member of the Salvadoran gang MS-13 has been arrested in connection with a double homicide that claimed the lives of a young Hispanic couple in Virginia, authorities say.
On August 28, a pair of 22-year-olds identified as Mijal Conejero-Romera and her boyfriend Diego Alexander Woollett were shot and killed during an altercation in Sterling, an area in Loudoun County.
Nearly two months later, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office’s announced the apprehension of a suspect believed to have killed at least one of the victims.
“On October 23, at approximately 6:01 p.m., in the 4100 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, Alexandria PD officers recognized the suspect from a law enforcement bulletin shared with our partners,” Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman explained in a press release on Friday.
“Thanks to their initiative, they were able to arrest Marlyn Medrano-Ortiz, 18, of Alexandria, working in collaboration with the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service.”
While Medrano-Ortiz’s nationality has not been made public, Sheriff Chapman confirms he is a member of MS-13 who is illegally present in the U.S.
Medrano-Ortiz has been charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

An investigation is ongoing and authorities are still working to determine if additional suspects were involved.
“I am on record strongly opposing the presence of MS-13 and other violent gangs in our nation and local communities. MS-13 is an El Salvador-based gang that uses intimidation, crime, and violence as tools of the trade, and there should be no safe place for them here,” Sheriff Chapman stated.
