An MSNBC panel blasted the Electoral College as a “force of voter suppression” as early returns show former President Donald Trump ahead of Kamala Harris.
Anchor Lawrence O’Donnell suggested America do away with the Electoral College on Tuesday with Trump leading in eastern and southern states.
“An apology to all of those states that we have not mentioned. It’s not our fault, it’s the Founding Fathers. They decided on this thing called the Electoral College, which, interestingly, no other country in the world decided to copy,” O’Donnell said.

O’Donnell went on to lament how the liberal strongholds of California and New York aren’t able to leverage their large populations to swing the elections toward Democrats at the expense of the rest of the country.
“If you’re in California, if you’re in New York, and when you think about how enormous a force that can be in voter suppression, there may be nothing quite like it,” he said.
“This Electoral College problem, is one that bedevils us in the 21st century as it never has before,” he added.
Democrats have long characterized the Electoral College as a “threat to democracy” since it provides equal representation to Middle America, which historically favors Republicans.
