Pundits on MSNBC blamed former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric for the second attempt on his life Sunday, arguing he needs to “tone it down.”
“Do you expect there to be calls from within the Trump campaign to [tone it down]?” Alex Witt asked Time Magazine’s Elise Jordan.

"Do you expect there to be calls from within the Trump campaign to [tone it down]?"
Elise Jordan replies she hopes… pic.twitter.com/NGjxqIsTPR
“Because he’s going to reach out to his supporters and say, ‘let’s take this down,'” she continued. “We do not know, again, the source of any gunshot or gunshots. We don’t know who’s responsible for this. The whole thing has yet to be 100% confirmed from start to finish how this all played out.”
“But do you expect to hear anything from the Trump campaign about toning down the rhetoric, toning down the violence, or would that be atypical of the former president?” she asked Jordan.
Jordan said that Trump only ratcheted up his rhetoric following the first assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, so it’s unlikely he will do so this time.
“Remember, Alex, back to the assassination attempt on President Trump’s life and how there was talk of a new tone, and the Republican Convention was — by Trumpian standards — muted and it seemed he was, you know, just trying to take it down a few notches,” Jordan replied.
“But then by the end of his convention speech, we were kind of back to where we started. So I don’t know how long this moment of unity for the country where we come together and we say ‘I don’t want any political opposition to be under threat of violence.’ It’s not okay, any threat of violence, you know, we don’t want. I would love for us to have a unity-type moment, but I think it’s probably going to be pretty fleeting as we’ve seen in the past.”
Contrary to the media’s characterization that Trump is spurring violence with his rhetoric, Trump issued a statement Sunday calling for “unity” and “peace” after the reported assassination attempt against him, and assured the people that he’s safe.
“There gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted to you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER. I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”

The New York Post has more details on the assassination attempt:
Donald Trump was rushed to safety by the Secret Service after agents spotted a man with an AK-47 near his golf course and agents opened fire, law enforcement sources said.
The former president was on the links at Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach at the time, about 2 p.m. on Sunday. The gunman was spotted by an advance team several holes ahead of Trump, the sources told The Post.
It’s not clear whether the man was on the course or near it.
An agent opened fire, shooting multiple times.
Initial reports suggested two people were firing at each other. However, sources said investigators now believe the Secret Service agent was the only shooter.
The man’s motives are not yet known. He was arrested by Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies.
Meanwhile, will the mainstream media admit to any culpability for perpetuating inflammatory anti-Trump rhetoric over the years? Don’t count on it.
Kamala Harris called Donald Trump the biggest threat to America since the Civil War on Tuesday. On Sunday someone tried to kill him.

I never, ever want to hear about how the right incites violence.

This is Rachel Vindman, a woman who accused Trump of 'placing her in danger just for referencing her,' because she is the wife of one of the key impeachment witnesses.

This is a recent example of the Hate TV that airs every night on MSNBC, where Trump and his supporters are dehumanized with incendiary and hateful rhetoric.

“Trump supporters are just as despicable as he is.”
