About two dozens homeless veterans have been expelled from hotels in upstate New York to make room for illegal aliens, according to a nonprofit group that works with the vets.
The veterans were told by the hotels that they had to move out of their rooms at the same time New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) is busing illegal migrants all across the state.
“Our veterans have been placed in another hotel due to what’s going on with the immigrants,’’ said Sharon Toney-Finch, the CEO of the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation.
Toney-Finch is a disabled military veteran who created YIT to raise awareness of premature births and helping the homeless and low-income military service veterans.
“One of the vets called me on Sunday,’’ she told The New York Post. “He told me he had to leave because the hotel said the extended stay is not available. Then I got another call. We didn’t waste any time.”
“That’s when we started on Monday to organize when and where to move them all.”
“I am glad you called me today,’’ she told The Post. “Last night, I was crying.”
The vets had only been in the hotels, like the The Crossroads, Super 8, and Hampton Inn & Suites in Middletown, for a couple weeks before they were told to leave, she said.
“Now we have to work from ground zero. We just lost that trust [with the vets],” she added.
Adams began busing hundreds of migrants to areas outside the city last week amid reports the Big Apple is over capacity, which has drawn intense criticism from surrounding counties.
Rockland County executive Ed Day (R) said they are “not equipped to humanely assist” the migrants, and other counties also issued restraining orders to prevent the migrants from arriving.
Adams’ office, however, dismissed their concerns as “racist rhetoric.”
“We’ve been met with racist rhetoric and reprehensible threats from the head of a county that will be tasked with caring for less than one-fourth of 1% of the asylum seekers who have come to New York City,” Adams’ press secretary Fabian Levy told ABC News, speaking about Rockland County’s response. “And, once again, New York would be paying for shelter, food, and services.”
The migrants will be housed for up to 4 months in various hotels on the New York City taxpayer’s dime.
Meanwhile, migrants are pouring through the U.S.-Mexico border at the highest rates ever recorded after Title 42 expired last week.
