Employees and officials at the US Treasury Department are reportedly refusing to quit, despite indications the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency task force will inevitably audit and downsize the federal agency.
The revelations were admitted to by US Treasury Policy Advisor Nathaniel Johnson, who recently told an undercover O’Keefe Media Group reporter that many personnel at the department plan to defy orders from DOGE to abandon their posts, believing the mandate to be possibly illegal.

“No one’s quitting because everyone’s dug in their feet,” Johnson told the OMG operative in a report going viral on social media.
This despite Johnson also admitting he knows “a few” employees who “don’t do their jobs,” adding, “There are people that I know who’ve been working for the government for, like, 40 years. And they don’t do much.”
The policy advisor further claimed Musk’s DOGE revamp of government was a ploy to rake in cash, saying, “There’s a class of people in this country who care more about the money than they do about the country.”
“He’s showing what he really cares about is money. So, in theory, all he wants is more money,” Johnson told the OMG reporter.
On Wednesday it was reported 75,000 federal workers, about 3% of the civilian workforce, had accepted the Trump administration’s buyout offers to resign from their positions while continuing to receive salaries until September 30.
