Barack and Michelle Obama will join Kamala Harris on the campaign trail this coming week at two separate events in an attempt to bolster her flagging campaign.
Michelle Obama will campaign for the first time during this election cycle when she joins Kamala Harris on Saturday 26 October in Michigan. Michelle Obama spoke at the Democratic National Convention this year.
Barack Obama will campaign with Kamala Harris in Georgia, on Thursday. The former president has already been holding solo events in battleground states, including Pennsylvania, and is due to speak in Tucson, Las Vegas, Detroit and Madison.
Although both of the Obamas remain popular with Democrat voters, Barack Obama was heavily criticized, by voters and commentators, for his recent intervention in which he admonished black voter for “not feeling the idea of having a woman as president.”
Commentator Stephen A. Smith was particularly damning about the remarks on his show.
“I’m going to say it again. Respectfully, what you said is not acceptable. Not to me. Not to a host of Black men out there – who’s not even thinking about voting for Donald Trump. What you said is unacceptable. What ever happened to disagreeing without being disagreeable, President Obama?” Smith asked.
Smith pointed out that many in the black community feel the Biden-Harris administration has contributed to runaway inflation and is prioritizing illegal aliens over black Americans.
Barack Obama was also in the news this week for a public conversation he had with President Biden at the funeral of Ethel Kennedy. Both men appeared to express frustration and concern about the course of the Harris-Walz campaign.
Although the conversation was inaudible, a transcript was soon produced by a lipreader.
“She’s not as strong as me,” Biden says.
“I know… that’s true,” Obama agrees, then adds, “We have time.”
“Yeah, we’ll get it in time.”
Despite official denials that they were talking about Kamala Harris, few believe the two men were talking about anyone else.
