Nancy Pelosi has blamed Joe Biden for Kamala Harris’s disastrous defeat in the presidential election, saying that if the President had exited the race sooner, “it would have been different.”
Pelosi was speaking to The New York Times podcast when she made the comments.
“Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race,” Pelosi explained.
“The anticipation was that, if the president were to step aside, that there would be an open primary.”
“And as I say, Kamala may have, I think she would have done well in that and been stronger going forward. But we don’t know that. That didn’t happen.”
“We live with what happened,” she continued.
“And because the president endorsed Kamala Harris immediately, that really made it almost impossible to have a primary at that time. If it had been much earlier, it would have been different.”
Pelosi was also asked about Senator Bernie Sanders’s comment that the Democratic Party had abandoned its traditional working-class constituencies in favour of an obsession with identity politics.
“Bernie Sanders has not won,” Pelosi retorted.
“With all due respect, and I have a great deal of respect for him, for what he stands for, but I don’t respect him saying that the Democratic Party has abandoned the working-class families.”
Pelosi, along with the Obamas, was one of the key movers in the palace coup that removed Joe Biden from the presidential race, after his dismal performance in the first presidential debate.
According to journalist Seymour Hersch, Barack Obama, with the support of Pelosi and other key Democrat big dogs, threatened Biden with the 25th Amendment if he didn’t step aside.
“It’s not surprising that the long overdue unraveling of President Joe Biden’s re-election campaign happened when it became impossible to keep his increasing impairment covered up,” Hersch wrote on Substack.
“It was the big-time money backers of the Democratic Party who called off the game of see no evil, hear no evil, after Biden’s shocking performance in his June debate with Donald Trump. They balked at continuing to give millions of dollars to the party now that there was evidence that the president is not always there.”
Hersch describes in detail the manoeuvring that took place behind the scenes, as well as publicly with the support of celebrities like George Clooney, to get the President to hand over the campaign to Kamala Harris.
“By Saturday, July 20, former President Barack Obama was deeply involved, and there was talk that he would place a call to Biden,” Hersch explains.
He describes how a well-placed official told him that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries plotted with Obama to invoke the 25th Amendment, leading to a phone call with Biden in which the former president said, “Here’s the deal. We have Kamala’s approval to invoke the 25th Amendment.”
