Premier League club Brentford has become the first team in the top flight to say it’s players will refuse to ‘take a knee’ before the start of games next season.
Having already refused to take part in the gesture since February, the newly promoted team will continue to defy the norm when the new campaign begins.
The club originally stopped having its players take a knee because they no longer believed it was having an impact.
Leading goalscorer Ivan Toney, who is black, subsequently asserted that ‘take a knee’ had done nothing to stop racist abuse on social media and was therefore pointless.
The UK sports media has attempted to whip up a hysterical moral panic over multi-millionaire players being insulted on social media, which in turn only feeds the trolls and makes the abuse worse.
“The Premier League declined to comment on Brentford’s likely refusal to take the knee but the Telegraph has been told it fully supports the right of individuals not to do so,” reports the newspaper.
Criticism over ‘take a knee’ has come from two sides, with some saying the performative gesture is useless and the focus should be on taking action that actually tackles racism.

Others point out that the gesture is inextricably linked with Black Lives Matter, an extreme left-wing movement that openly seeks to abolish the nuclear family and defund the police.
England international players have been booed while taking a knee before both of the recent games, prompting manager Gareth Southgate to insist the action will continue throughout the Euro 2020 tournament.
This is a completely moronic decision since it will simply serve to create further division amongst supporters and demoralize the team before kick-off.
As we document in the video below, if the players continue to express tacit support for BLM by taking a knee, it’s everyone’s moral duty to boo them.
