House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said he’s not confident the “extreme MAGA Republicans” in the House would certify the election if Donald Trump loses.
CNN’s “State of the Union” host Jake Tapper teed it up for Jeffries by by claiming that Trump and his allies are “laying the groundwork” to “contest” the election results if Kamala Harris wins.
“Are you confident the Republican-led House will certify the 2024 election in January?” Tapper asked him.
“I’m confident we’re going to do everything we need to do over the next few months to ensure the House Democrats take back the majority so that the American people do not have to encounter that question,” Jeffries responded.
Hakeem Jeffries: Not confident an “Extreme Maga Republican” House would certify the election if Trump loses.
Pure projection. We already know Democrats have hatched a plan to not certify a Trump victory via the 14th Amendment.

“It is a reality that far too many of my extreme MAGA Republican colleagues in the House have engaged in election denial, conspiracy theories, and have tried to undermine the very fabric of our democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.”
“By the way, Jake, that’s what Trump’s Project 2025 is all about,” he added. “The extreme MAGA Republicans want total control over the lives of the American people. Total control over our government and total control over our democracy. And we’ve got to stop it from happening.”
Of course, Jeffries’ assertions are pure projection given the remarks made by his colleague Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who warned Democrats to prepare for “civil war conditions” while they work to deny Trump the presidency with the 14th Amendment if he’s elected in November.
“They want to kick it to Congress, so it’s going to be up to us on January 6, 2025 to tell the rampaging Trump mobs that he’s disqualified and then we need bodyguards for everybody and civil war conditions,” Raskin said in February.
“All because the nine Justices…who have not many cases to look at every year, not that much work to do, a huge staff, great protection, simply do not want to do their job and interpret what the great 14th Amendment means,” he added.
