Photos posted online Monday purport to show Sen. John Fetterman (D-Penn.) reviewing documents while being treated for clinical depression at Walter Reed Medical Center.
Published less than a week after being criticized by Republicans in his state for missing in action, the photos posted by Fetterman’s Chief of Staff Adam Jentleson show him looking over documents.
“Productive morning with Senator Fetterman at Walter Reed discussing the rail safety legislation, Farm Bill and other Senate business,” Jentleson tweeted. “John is well on his way to recovery and wanted me to say how grateful he is for all the well wishes. He’s laser focused on PA & will be back soon.”
Responding to the photos, Fetterman’s wife Giselle, who fled to Canada last month as her husband was hospitalized, blamed “society’s expectations and traditional gender roles” for her husband not seeking mental help.

The photos come as Republican legislators in Pennsylvania demanded Fetterman, who was plagued with criticism during the 2022 midterms over his questionable post-stroke mental fitness, show his face or resign since going absent mid-February.
“Regarding the absent Senator,” began a press release by the Washington County Republican Party.
“Because of the now confirmed lies that were told during the 2022 general election regarding the health of Senator John Fetterman, as well as the threats made against a journalist who interviewed him, the Washington County Republican Party refuses to take assurances from the Office of the Senator or Democrat operatives that Fetterman is able to carry out his duties as Senator.”
“As such,” the Republicans continued, “we call upon Senator Fetterman to appear on camera to show us he is alive and well, and if he is unable to do so, we call upon our elected Representatives in Washington, Senator Casey and Congressman Reschenthaler, to intervene immediately.”
“Ultimately, if Fetterman is unable or unwilling to carry out his duties as a United States Senator, then we ask for his resignation and call for a special election to be held this year; no more lies or games.”
The Associated Press it could take “weeks” to fully treat the junior senator.
In the meantime, in the absence of video proof skeptics on social media are questioning the legitimacy and authenticity of the photos.
