A sign at an Aldi grocery store in Western Australia announces the restriction of alcohol sales to vaccinated persons only – because science!

The sign being criticized on social media reads, “In accordance the Western Australia Government as of Monday, 31st January 2022 you will be required to provide proof of vaccination to purchase alcohol from this store.”

The person who uploaded the photo of the sign complained the policy makes no sense because they can buy groceries at the same register they sell alcohol at without presenting vaccine proof.

“I can buy groceries at Aldi, but must be vaccinated to take a bottle of wine through the same register….science,” the OP wrote.

The sign referenced a statewide Covid passport program implemented by the Western Australian government starting Monday, which requires patrons to present vaccine proof at venues and events throughout the state.

The new guidelines affect people aged 16 and up and require proof of vaccination at: hospitality venues, bars, pubs, clubs, taverns, bottle shops (including drive-through bottle shops – because science), indoor entertainment venues, major stadiums, music festivals, gyms, zoos and elderly care facilities.

Responding to the outrageously ridiculous guidelines, former NSW deputy President of the Australian Medical Association, Dr. David Adler, criticized the guidelines as having “no medical basis.”

The new Covid policies come as Western Australia sees a spike in Covid cases in direct correlation with the increased vaccination program.
