Kremlin Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday that Russia is ready to begin negotiations with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump during a Tuesday press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
The Russian Press Secretary said that currently, U.S./Russian relations were at an all-time low and that it’s doubtful things could get any worse under Trump.
“It is almost impossible to worsen them further, relations are at their historically lowest point. What happens next will depend on the next U.S. leadership,” Peskov said on Tuesday, according to Reuters on Wednesday. “Let’s not forget that we are talking about an unfriendly country that is directly and indirectly involved in a war against our state.”
Despite the current U.S. administration’s war against Russia using Ukraine as a proxy state, Putin seeks ‘constructive’ dialogue of a mutual nature.
“President Putin has repeatedly said that he is open to constructive dialogue based on fairness and equality, and a willingness to take each other’s concerns into account,” Peskov said on Tuesday, according to Reuters on Wednesday. “At the moment, the U.S. administration is diametrically opposed, and what will happen in January – we will see.”
