President Joe Biden has set a record for naturalizations during his presidency, with 3.5 million and counting.
New analysis from the Migration Policy Institute shows that from Fiscal Year 2021 through Fiscal Year 2024, naturalized American citizenship was awarded to around 3.5 million legal immigrants.
This is the greatest number of any single presidential term “by far,” according to the Institute.
The number of naturalizations under Biden is more than during the combined presidencies of Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.
Naturalizations came closest to Biden’s record during George W. Bush’s second term, when 3,014,000 immigrants were naturalized.
According to the Migration Policy Institute, the record number of naturalizations can be explained by the reduction in application waiting time brought in by the Biden admin.
Waiting times were slashed from a median of 11.5 months at the beginning of Biden’s term to 5 months in Fiscal Year 2024.
