New Jersey, often a Democrat stronghold, is seeing early in-person voting for the Republican candidate Donald Trump slightly outpace Democrat Kamala Harris.
“Early in-person voting kicked off in the Garden State on Saturday, with 247,003 residents casting their votes over the weekend alone, NJ.com reported. Republican early in-person voters have taken the lead in the state, with 144,105 GOP votes cast compared to Democrats’ 139,524 votes,” Fox News said Wednesday. “Democrats in the deep blue state still have the edge over Republicans for vote-by-mail ballots at 383,062 compared to 130,362, the New Jersey Globe reported. All in, New Jersey has 6,562,735 registered voters this cycle, state data shows.”
Ryan Dubicki, an Associated Press elections researcher analyzed this data on Tuesday.
7 days to go, and an additional 134,144 New Jerseyans voted on the 3rd day of in-person early voting yesterday. With over 637,000 mail ballots returned, over 1.018 million New Jerseyans have voted in the General Election so far. pic.twitter.com/dbGUdcWyTB

Note there is a difference in returns by party between in-person early voting and vote-by-mail early voting. In New Jersey, Republicans only lead in in-person early voting.
Interestingly, Republicans are more likely to vote on Election Day, not in early voting. While not all battleground states are seeing more Republican votes in early voting (via either mail or in-person) compared to Democrat votes, they are all experiencing a higher percentage of Republicans voting early compared to 2020. Note that not every battleground state has both mail-in and in-person early voting.
This swing in New Jersey’s early voting comes despite the state registering non-citizens to vote.
