Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. said he’s aware his department was previously used to facilitate child trafficking under the Biden administration, but noted under his leadership he’s prioritized locating at least 300,000 children who’ve gone missing.
“We have ended HHS…as the vector, the principal vector in this country for child trafficking– and during the Biden administration, HHS became a collaborator in child trafficking and for sex, and for slavery, and we have ended that,” RFK said during a cabinet meeting Wednesday.
“And we’re very aggressively going out and trying to find these children 300,000 children that were lost by the Biden administration,” he said, adding, “and we are.”
Some estimates state as many as 500,000 children who were illegally smuggled across the border have gone missing or are unable to be located by DHS.
Asked last December about accusations from Trump border czar Tom Homan that the Department of Homeland Security was facilitating child trafficking, former DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed his agency bore no responsibility for the thousands of missing illegal alien children suspected of being trafficked.
“The incoming border czar, Tom Homan, says these children are being exploited and trafficked. Is that true?” Face the Nation’s Margaret Brennan asked Mayorkas, who went on to admit DHS hands the children over to HHS.
“Margaret, we certainly have received reports of children being trafficked, even those as to whom we know where they are. That is outside the responsibility of the Department of Homeland Security,” Mayorkas replied. “What we do is we turn children over within 72 hours, as the law requires, to the Department of Health and Human Services, and then HHS places those children.”
Meanwhile, major figures in Trump’s orbit including White House official Stephen Miller have indicated finding the children is a top priority for the administration.
