Russian Official Emphasizes Their Nuclear First Strike Policy, Claim’s NATO Has a “Strike Fist” Policy

Perhaps most fascinating is that the Russian News Agency split their interview with Shoigu into two articles, one about the Russian 'first strike' policy and one about what Shoigu called NATO's 'strike fist' policy.

The so-called 'strike fist' policy's description sounds very similar to a 'first strike' policy, according to Shoigu's statements.

On Thursday the secretary of Russia’s National Security Council, Sergey Shoigu, said that Moscow maintains the right to launch a nuclear first strike against foreign countries for a variety of reasons while also discussing Western aggression. He said that recent military buildups by Western Europe indicate to Moscow that NATO is forming a ‘strike fist’ policy.

“In November 2024, revisions were introduced to the Basic Principles of State Policy of the Russian Federation on Nuclear Deterrence, according to which Russia reserves the right to use nuclear arms in the event of aggression against it or the Republic of Belarus, including with the use of conventional weapons,” Shoigu said, adding that Russia is “carefully monitoring Europe’s military preparations.”

Russia’s nuclear first strike doctrine was reported on by Infowars at the time.

The updated doctrine outlined the scenarios in which Moscow would be authorized to deploy its nuclear arsenal. These include the ability of Russia to deploy its nuclear arsenal against non-nuclear states which are attacking it with non-nuclear weapons supplied by nuclear states. It also allows Russia to use its nuclear arsenal against nations which are not directly attacking but are aiding the nations which are attacking

“In accordance with Russia’s National Security Strategy, in the event of foreign countries carrying out hostile actions representing a threat to Russia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, our country considers it legitimate to take appropriate symmetric and asymmetric measures necessary to thwart such actions and prevent them from repeating,” he said.

Shoigu also claimed that NATO was transitioning to a new ‘combat readiness system’, with the ability to deploy a force of 100,000 troops within 10 days, 300,000 within 30 days, and up to 800,000 after 180 days. He described this as the West establishing a “strike fist” policy, which when he described what that means, his description sounded very similar to a “first strike” policy.

“This includes consistent development of military infrastructure across Eastern European states, deployment of strategic missile defense systems, and measures aimed at maintaining high combat readiness of tactical nuclear capabilities in Europe,” he said.

“The Baltic States are utilizing Western funds to construct defense lines and establish NATO military bases within their territories. In addition to U.S. Abrams tanks, Poland is actively acquiring South Korean armored vehicles and making plans to obtain 180 K2 Black Panther tanks by 2026. The country is also purchasing over 200 South Korean self-propelled artillery systems K9 and multiple launch rocket systems K239. Shoigu emphasized that these developments clearly point to whom this ‘strike fist’ is being directed against,” TASS said.
