An elderly woman was hospitalized after a suspect struck her more than 50 times with her own cane during a brutal beating in New York City over the weekend, according to reports.
The shocking incident unfolded at around 3:30 a.m. on Friday in Harlem.
The 60-year-old victim was walking in the West 116 Street and Lenox Avenue subway station when she was attacked by a large man wielding an umbrella.
Footage shot by a witness has been circulating on social media.

The suspect can be seen swinging the umbrella at the woman who then uses her cane to defend herself.
The improvised weapons become entangled and the suspect gains control of the walking stick.
He proceeds to strike the defenseless woman dozens of times as she lays on the ground.
Eventually, the cane breaks and the woman is able to wrestle it away, at which point the brute punches her repeatedly in the head as his pants fall off.
The suspect can then be seen yelling at the victim and kicking her before gathering items into a trash bag.
At no point did anyone intercede during the vicious assault, which lasted for approximately two minutes.
“She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she is thought to be in stable condition,” the New York Post reports.
“The unidentified suspect fled before police arrived. It is unclear how the argument between the two began.”
The suspect remained on the loose as of Monday night, according to the latest available updates.
