Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital in San Bernardino, California, was swatted on Wednesday night after an individual called the police saying he was hearing voices and planned on shooting people at the facility.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon D. Dicus said in a statement, “The caller called and said that he was armed with an AR-15 and also had a bomb and that [he] was suffering from a mental health crisis and hearing voices and the voices were telling him to do what he was saying he was going to do, which was shoot up the hospital and the patients.”
The hoax caller alleged the pediatric emergency room was being targeted.
The hospital went on a “Code Silver” lockdown with students and employees on campus and in nearby medical buildings receiving a text message instructing them to take shelter or prepare to fight.
“This is not a drill: Initiate immediate protective actions. If confronted with a threat, RUN, HIDE, FIGHT,” some of the message stated.
After a massive police response and evacuation of the hospital, law enforcement declared the building all-clear around 8 p.m.
Sheriff Dicus also pointed out the fake 911 report took law enforcement resources away from real crimes being committed.
“Law enforcement officers responded from two counties, taking away their ability to handle emergency calls in their own communities,” he said. “All of this caused by a hoax to falsely portray a catastrophic event.”
The incident took place amid a slew of swatting calls targeting conservative commentators this week.
FBI Director Kash Patel addressed the dangerous attacks on pro-Trump media personalities in a Friday social media post, writing, “The FBI is aware of this dangerous trend, and my team and I are already taking action to investigate and hold those responsible accountable. This isn’t about politics—weaponizing law enforcement against ANY American is not only morally reprehensible but also endangers lives, including those of our officers. That will not be tolerated. We are fully committed to working with local law enforcement to crack down on these crimes. More updates to come.”
