The son of failed Trump assassin Ryan Routh has been taken into custody on federal charges of possessing child pornography.
Authorities seized multiple electronic devices from 35-year-old Oran Alexander Routh’s home in Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday.
The illicit material was discovered during a search conducted “in connection with an investigation unrelated to child exploitation,” according to a criminal complaint.

“A review of the SD card located in Device-1 revealed that it contained hundreds of child pornography files,” prosecutors wrote in the criminal complaint. “These files include videos from a known child pornography series created outside the state of North Carolina.”
The New York Post reported, “The videos show children as young as 6 being sexually abused, feds allege. There was also child porn on another Galaxy Note 9 that Oran Routh had on him, the complaint says. The phone also had a messaging app often used for the distribution of child porn, with messages from July asking for a preview of the sick content before two files were sent to the device, the court papers claim.”
Routh has been charged with receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, and will make an initial appearance in a North Carolina federal court later Tuesday.
Ryan Routh, 58, was arrested on Sept. 15 after fleeing Trump International Golf Club where a scope-mounted SKS semiautomatic rifle with a removed serial number was discovered on the property just a few hundred yards from where Trump was playing at the fifth hole.
He’s been charged with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, but prosecutors said Monday they intend to ask a grand jury to consider a charge that Ryan Routh attempted to assassinate Trump.
That comes after prosecutors also revealed that Ryan Routh had sent a box to a witness several months before the assassination attempt, which contained several letters detailing his intent to kill Trump.
“This was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster. It is up to you now to finish the job; and I will offer $150,000 to whomever can complete the job,” one letter read.
After searching his vehicle during his arrest, authorities also discovered “handwritten list of dates in August, September, and October 2024 and venues where the former President had appeared or was expected to be present,” as well as two additional license plates, 12 pairs of gloves, a Hawaii Driver’s License, a passport, and six cellphones, with one phone containing a Google search of “how to travel from Palm Beach County to Mexico.”
