California State Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) took to Twitter to describe a new “bill idea” that would introduce “Drag Queen 101” into the K-12 school curriculum.
Wiener added that kids attending Drag Queen Story Time would “satisfy” the proposed school requirement.
Wiener’s taunt was a response to an East Texas representative pledging to ban drag shows in the presence of minors.
“The events of this past weekend were horrifying and show a disturbing trend in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children,” reads Representative Bryan Slaton’s Monday press release. “I would never take my children to a drag show . . . and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either.”
“Protecting our own children isn’t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas.”
The weekend event Slaton referred to was Saturday’s “Drag The Kids To Pride” event in Dallas that made national news after a comedian was assaulted while exposing how the drag show targeted minors.
Regarding Weiner’s tweet, readers may have a hard time determining if it was facetious or genuine, given Weiner’s political track record.
In 2019, in an effort to “eliminate discrimination against LGBTQ youth” in the criminal justice system, Wiener introduced Senate Bill 145 which let a judge decide if an adult can avoid being registered as a sex offender after having gay sex with a minor.
“Under SB145, if a young adult has gay sex with a minor 14 or older who is less than 10 years younger, a judge will have the discretion whether to place the individual on the sex offender registry,” reports Daily Wire.
California Governor Newsom signed SB145 into law in 2020.
And in 2017, Wiener co-authored Senate Bill 239, which reduced the penalty for knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV as well as the penalty for knowingly donating blood infected with HIV.
SB 239 was signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown the same year.
