Pop star Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris for president may not have swayed voters in the candidate’s favor, but in fact may have actually backfired, new poll shows.
A YouGov poll surveying 1,120 potential voters between September 11-12 showed that a majority of voters (66%) said that Swift’s endorsement made no difference, while only 8% of voters would either be “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for Harris due to Swift’s endorsement.
Yet a full 20% said they are “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for former President Donald Trump.
66% of the poll’s participants said they are not “Swifties,” while 28% reported being a fan and 6% identified as a big fan. The majority of “big fans” were women and registered Democrats.
Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president minutes after the first debate last week, though she advised Americans to do their own research.
It seems many have done just that.
Nevertheless, Democrats have been quick to capitalize on Swift’s endorsement, erecting billboards in Times Square and the Las Vegas Strip.
And it was reported that Swift’s endorsement prompted 338,000 people to register on vote.gov.
Overall, while 46% of respondents thought Harris won the debate to 19% for Trump, just 6% said it caused them to reconsider their vote, while 76% said it has not.
