Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) on Wednesday announced he’d shipped a load of illegal immigrants to Chicago, Illinois, in accordance with the Windy City’s admitted “sanctuary city” status.
“The migrants were dropped off at Union Station tonight,” a press release from the governor states, adding, “In addition to Washington, D.C. and New York City, Chicago will now be a drop-off location for the busing strategy as part of the Governor’s response to President Biden’s open border policies overwhelming border communities in Texas.”

Biden’s inaction at our border puts Texans at risk & is overwhelming our communities.
We’ll continue bussing migrants to sanctuary cities like NYC, DC, & now Chicago until the federal gov’t does its job & secures the border. pic.twitter.com/RccsdIOXiI

The immigrant relocation scheme is part of Gov. Abbott’s effort to offset the price of Biden’s open border crisis by delivering migrants to cities claiming to welcome illegal immigrants with open arms.
“To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington D.C., and New York City as an additional drop-off location,” reads a statement from Abbott. “[Democrat] Mayor [Lori] Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them.”
The press release goes on to say that since the initiative started in spring, “thousands of migrants have been transported to these sanctuary cities.”
Around 75 illegals arrived by bus at Chicago’s Union Station Wednesday night, with the Chicago Tribune reporting “Most were men, but there was one woman with her young daughter and husband.”
A representative for Mayor Lightfoot accused Abbott of “racism” and claimed the immigrants were welcomed “with dignity and respect.”

While Chicago is evidently OK complying with the governor’s scheme, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was resoundingly opposed to the effort, saying he’d retaliate against Abbott by sending New Yorkers to Texas to canvass against his re-election bid and instead urge Texans to vote for Democrat opponent Beto O’Rourke.
