The two men injured by rifle fire during the July 13 assassination attempt against Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania were interviewed by NBC on Monday. David Dutch, 57, from New Kensington, Pennsylvania and James Copenhaver, 74, from Moon Township discussed their experiences of that bloody day.
Copenhaver revealed that he realized something serious was going on when part of his shirt sleeve went away (due to being shot). He said he turned to his friend and said “I think I was shot.” Copenhaver was shot twice that day, the second round went into his abdomen and is still lodged in his colon, according to NBC.
The bullet that struck Dutch split his liver, according to NBC.
“It was like getting hit with a sledgehammer right in the chest,” Dutch said in the interview. “I could feel my ribs were all busted up.”
Dutch told NBC that the U.S. Secret Service failed Trump and him ‘big time’ that day.
Tragically, another man, Corey Comperatore was fatally shot while protecting his family during the assassination attempt. Comperatore covered his family with his body and was shot in the head.
Donald Trump was shot in the ear but was not seriously wounded.
The attempted assassin and murderer of Comperatore, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was shot and killed during the incident. There is an ongoing Congressional investigation into the incident.
“Both men expressed disappointment and anger at what they felt was a failure to secure the rally properly. Dutch further stated, ‘Big time. The whole security setup was poor.’ Copenhaver added, ‘I’m sure there was negligence. It wouldn’t have happened, had it been secure’,” Jim Hoft said in The Gateway Pundit on Tuesday. “The two survivors have endured lasting physical impacts, struggling daily with the injuries sustained during the attack.”
