Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to Mar-a-Lago on Friday.
Trudeau’s visit comes in the wake of the president elect’s announcement of 25% tariffs on all products from Mexico and Canada until the border crises, south and north, are fixed.
Footage posted to social media showed Trudeau arriving in West Palm Beach by motorcade, and a picture showed him dining with Trump and others.
The visit was not included on the Prime Minister’s public itinerary.
The governments of Mexico and Canada have been in panic mode since Trump’s announcement of tariffs linked to illegal immigration. Within hours of the announcement, Trudeau reportedly called Trump to speak about trade and security.
Trudeau has made clear he believes Trump will carry out his threat.
“One of the things that is really important to understand is that Donald Trump, when he makes statements like that, he plans on carrying them out,” Trudeau told reporters in Mount Stewart, Prince Edward Island.
“There’s no question about it.
“Our responsibility is to point out that, in this way, he would be actually not just be harming Canadians, who work so well with the United States, he’d actually be raising prices for American citizens as well and hurting American industry and businesses.”
