Trump on Syria Conflict: ‘This is Not Our Fight’

Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years," says president-elect.

President-elect Donald Trump weighed in on the unfolding conflict in Syria, claiming the United States has no business getting involved in a regional skirmish.

Syria is currently being invaded by NATO-backed jihadists, who’ve captured the cities of Aleppo and Homs with the ultimate aim of toppling the government of Bashr al-Assad.

The Syrian government, backed by Russian airstrikes, has been attempting to counter the rebel offensive.

“Opposition fighters in Syria, in an unprecedented move, have totally taken over numerous cities, in a highly coordinated offensive, and are now on the outskirts of Damascus, obviously preparing to make a very big move toward taking out Assad. Russia, because they are so tied up in Ukraine, and with the loss there of over 600,000 soldiers, seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years,” Trump wrote Saturday on X, adding that former President Obama did not help the country enough during his administration.

“There was never much of a benefit in Syria for Russia, other than to make Obama look really stupid,” Trump said.

“In any event, Syria is a mess, but is not our friend, & THE UNITED STATES SHOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. THIS IS NOT OUR FIGHT. LET IT PLAY OUT. DO NOT GET INVOLVED!”

This is exactly the kind of rhetoric the military-industrial complex hates to see from a U.S. president: a statement that looks after the interests of the American people, not the defense contractors to profit from more endless wars abroad.

The resistance efforts have been led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a U.S.-designated terrorist group backed by Turkey, a NATO member country.
