‘WORST STATEMENT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN MADE’: Trump Blasts Zelensky’s Proclamation That Peace Deal ‘Very, Very Far Away’

"It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S.," says president.

Comes amid reports Trump and his advisors may discuss canceling U.S. military aid to Ukraine.

President Donald Trump hit back at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s assertion that ending the war is “very, very far away,” concluding that “this guy doesn’t want there to be peace as long as he has America’s backing.”

Zelensky said Sunday night that a deal to end the Ukraine war “is still very, very far away,” but added that he still expects to keep receiving U.S. support despite his showdown with Trump at the Oval Office last week.

“I think our relationship (with the U.S.) will continue, because it’s more than an occasional relationship,” Zelensky said. “I believe that Ukraine has a strong enough partnership with the United States of America” to keep aid flowing.

But President Trump issued a withering statement against him and the European leaders in response on Monday, saying it confirmed his suspicions that Zelensky doesn’t really want to work for peace.

“This is the worst statement that could have been made by Zelenskyy, and America will not put up with it for much longer!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be Peace as long as he has America’s backing and, Europe, in the meeting they had with Zelenskyy, stated flatly that they cannot do the job without the U.S. – Probably not a great statement to have been made in terms of a show of strength against Russia. What are they thinking?”

The president was referring to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s announcement that the UK would provide Ukraine £2.26 billion as well as “boots on the ground” and “airplanes” to “guarantee the peace” in Ukraine.

But Starmer added the caveat that his military deployment plan will still require “strong US backing.”

“Together with others, Europe must do the heavy-lifting but to support peace in our continent and to succeed, this effort must have strong US backing. We’re working with the US on this point,” Starmer claimed.

Zelensky’s recent assertion also undercuts his previous remark he made Sunday that he was still ready to sign a minerals deal with the U.S.

Trump’s statement comes after National Security Advisor Mike Waltz warned that Zelensky’s time was limited to strike a deal.

“[Zelensky] is not ready to talk peace at all. Here is the problem, time is not on his side. Time is not on the side of just forever continuing this conflict,” Waltz said on Fox News Monday.

This comes amid reports that Trump and his advisors may discuss “suspending or canceling U.S. military aid to Ukraine,” along with the potential to reduce “intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian troops and pilots” at an upcoming Monday meeting.
