President-elect Donald Trump effectively dismissed speculation he may nominate Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) to run the FBI.

Trump faced widespread backlash following rumors he could nominate the former House Intelligence Committee chairman to head the intel agency, with some pointing out he was previously a staunch anti-Trumper.

Some highlighted Deep State operative former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s endorsement of Rogers as a concerning sign.

Whistleblowing site Wikileaks also sounded the alarm earlier this week, warning Rogers co-founded a ” deep state ‘never Trump’ group” called, “The Alliance for Securing Democracy (ASD).”

ASD “became a central player in efforts to tie President Donald Trump and his supporters to Russian interference in the 2016 election,” WikiLeaks warned on Tuesday.

“Among its co-founders were Mike Rogers, former Republican congressman and chair of the House Intelligence Committee; Michael McFaul, Obama’s former ambassador to Russia; Michael Chertoff, former Secretary of Homeland Security under George W. Bush; and Michael Hayden, former CIA and NSA director,” WikiLeaks reported on X. “These figures, with deep ties to the intelligence community and bipartisan opposition to Trump, were instrumental in advancing ASD’s agenda and its controversial Hamilton 68 project,” which was ostensibly created to track Russian disinformation on social media but ended up ensnaring many pro-Trump citizens and journalists.

Trump appears to have heard the people’s objections loud and clear.

On Friday, Trump senior advisor Dan Scavino informed X users, “Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought.’ Not happening.”

X users are instead pushing Trump to nominate loyalist Kash Patel to the position, who McCabe fears could implement sweeping changes to the agency.

“No part of the FBI’s mission is safe with Kash Patel in any position of leadership in the FBI and certainly not in the deputy director’s job,” McCabe told CNN on Thursday.

“If you enter into that position with nothing more than a desire to disrupt and destroy the organization, there is a lot of damage someone like Kash Patel could do in a position like deputy director at the FBI.”

Many will argue that’s exactly why he’s perfect for the role.
