Trump to Meet Putin Very Quickly After Inauguration, Russia Ready to Negotiate

Additionally, it was reported on Sunday that Trump's incoming National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said a call between Trump and Putin will take place very soon.

“We are ready to discuss security guarantees for the country that is now called Ukraine, and parts of that country which have not yet determined their status, unlike Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya [the Union of the Donbass Republics],” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Tuesday.

On Monday Donald Trump indicated in a press conference that he will be meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin very soon after his inauguration, echoing a recent statement by one of his incoming top advisors. At a press conference Tuesday Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Russia is now ready to negotiate security guarantees related to Ukraine.

During Trump’s Monday press conference, a reporter asked him how soon he anticipates to meet with Putin to discuss the Ukraine situation.

“Well I can’t tell you that but I know that Putin would like to meet, I don’t think it’s appropriate that I meet until after the 20th which I hate,” Trump said at 52:00 into the press conference video, stressing the words ‘which I hate’. “Because you know every day people are being…many many young people are being killed, soldiers.”

A reporter asked Trump if he hopes to have a conversation with Putin within three to six months, which Trump scoffed at.

“Six months? No, I would think, I hope long before six months,” Trump replied.

It was also reported that on Sunday Trump’s incoming National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said a call between Trump and Putin will take place very soon.

“President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are expected to have a call in the coming days or weeks,” Newsmax said Monday. “…and it is unrealistic to aim to expel Russian soldiers from every inch of Ukrainian territory, a top Trump adviser said.”

The other party to the Ukraine war saga, Russia, came out the following day and signaled they’re ready for ‘security guarantee’ negations, something the West and Ukraine have been pushing for, with Ukraine’s ruler Vladimir Zelensky even lamenting he didn’t have nuclear weapons as he sees those as a viable ‘security guarantee’, a red line for Russia. There are no indications that nuclear weapons will be part of these security guarantees however and it’s unlikely Zelensky’s ‘victory plan‘ will be honored.

“We are ready to discuss security guarantees for the country that is now called Ukraine, and parts of that country which have not yet determined their status, unlike Crimea, Donbass, and Novorossiya [the Union of the Donbass Republics],” Lavrov said Tuesday.
