Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) gave a fiery defense of the Second Amendment before the House Judiciary Committee last week, dismantling Democrat efforts to disarm law-abiding women and minorities.
The Ukrainian-born lawmaker’s passionate argument in favor of self-defense came as the House debated Democrat gun control bill H.R. 2814, the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act (sponsored by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)).
Rep. Spartz called the bills “infringements” on her rights and the rights of her children and grandchildren, and pointed out how people in her native country of Ukraine would likely love to have a Second Amendment right to own firearms in light of the ongoing war.
“We have to think about what works and what doesn’t work,” she said when explaining her state’s red-flag laws don’t work because they’re not enforced, adding, “because this bill is really about taking the rights from law-abiding citizens.”
2nd Amendment rights are the ultimate equalizer for women. Women and minorities would be disproportionately affected by gun control laws.

Rep. Spartz added firearms are the “ultimate equalizer” for women, immigrants and old people who would otherwise be defenseless against domestic enemies, bandits and a tyrannical government.
“So I will defend this right for the old people and all immigrants who came to this country to have these freedoms,” she stated.
“That is what differentiates us against everyone else. That’s why people willing to come to this country even illegally to cross the border, because they want to have freedoms not oppression and suppression, and I really value this right.”
A summary for HR 2814 states it “removes limitations on the civil liability of gun manufacturers and the disclosure of gun trace data in civil actions.”
The bill aims “To repeal the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and provide for the discoverability and admissibility of gun trace information in civil proceedings.”
The House Committee on Rules convenes to discuss HR 2814, and HR 1808, the “Assault Weapons Ban of 2022,” on Wednesday.
