Residents of Logansport, Ind., are calling on their city council to address the growing number of illegal aliens inundating the community and eating up local resources.
At a city council meeting Monday, residents asked city leaders to explain why their city of 18,000 has seen an unsustainable flood of immigrants from 28 different countries, straining city services.
According to Fox59, residents “voiced their various concerns about how the city’s services are being impacted, with one stating that the ‘rents are high’ and the ‘social systems,’ along with the schools and the police department, are overwhelmed.”
Despite calls by the city’s former Democrat Mayor Dave Kitchell to resign, current Republican Mayor Chris Martin said he would crack down on the number of people occupying homes, while providing more funding for translators, as illegals speaking 27 different languages now inhabit the area.
Martin also reportedly “made it clear that Logansport is not a ‘sanctuary city,’ but [said] there isn’t much they can do to stop people from moving to the city.”
According to a Fox59.com investigation released last week ahead of the city council meeting, similar to Springfield, Ohio, many of the illegals hail from Haiti, Honduras, Cuba, Guatemala and El Salvador, and have entered the US via the Biden-Harris administration’s Temporary Protected Status program.
Describing the illegals’ pathway to the United States, Cass County Health Department Administrator Serenity Alter pointed out during a September Cass County Commissioners meeting that school systems could not sustain the numerous immigrant students enrolling, which has ballooned to 207 Haitian students from only 14 in 2021.
“A lot of them are coming unaccompanied,” she said, adding, “They fly from Haiti to Nicaragua, to Mexico, and then to the state they are flying to in the US… Some have not seen their parents in seven years. It’s an eye-opener.”
“I don’t think our school system can sustain what they are doing right now,” she added.
Fox59 reports one Haitian migrant business owner told them the Tyson meat processing plant in the area serves as a huge magnet attracting possibly more than 2,000 illegals to Logansport in recent years.
Mayor Martin blamed the city’s immigration crisis on the Biden-Harris administration’s failed border policies, arguing the city’s traffic, school and medical services were being impacted, and saying, “The federal government has got to step in and help communities our size.”
According to Alter, she’s also seen homes unsafely occupied by 20 to 25 illegals, which Mayor Martin called “a big concern.”
Martin told Fox59 he’s currently considering declaring a state of emergency.
Meanwhile, Logansport residents will likely continue voicing their concerns about their city’s invasion at upcoming meetings.
One resident joined Fox News on Wednesday, asking federal officials to “help” the community.
