Following Tuesday morning’s phone call between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, it was announced that Washington and Moscow will immediately begin talks to end the Ukraine war without Dictator Vladimir Zelensky. A ceasefire has been officially declared and a future geopolitical order where the U.S. and Russia are allied was hinted at. This new global order moves away from the post-WWII order where the U.S. is tied to Western Europe’s opposition to Russia and reestablishes the geopolitical chessboard of the 19th century. To clarify, this is a geopolitical order, not a world government with a depopulation agenda.
“Both leaders expressed mutual interest in normalizing bilateral relations, recognizing the shared responsibility of Russia and the United States in ensuring global security and stability. In this context, they explored various areas for potential cooperation, including discussions on mutually beneficial economic and energy partnerships,” the Kremlin’s summary statement said.
The American account of the call echoed the new geopolitical order.
“The two leaders agreed that a future with an improved bilateral relationship between the United States and Russia has huge upside. This includes enormous economic deals and geopolitical stability when peace has been achieved,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Russian State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlyov said that the positions of Moscow and Washington may gradually converge and there is no space for Ukraine between them.
“We will negotiate only and exclusively with the U.S.,” he said.
“My phone conversation today with President Putin of Russia was a very good and productive one,” Trump said. “We agreed to an immediate Ceasefire on all Energy and Infrastructure, with an understanding that we will be working quickly to have a Complete Ceasefire and, ultimately, an END to this very horrible War between Russia and Ukraine. This War would have never started if I were President! Many elements of a Contract for Peace were discussed, including the fact that thousands of soldiers are being killed, and both President Putin and President Zelenskyy would like to see it end. That process is now in full force and effect, and we will, hopefully, for the sake of Humanity, get the job done!”
A prisoner swap of 175 detainees between Kiev and Moscow will also take place on March 19.
In his previous call with Putin on Thursday, Trump urged him to not slaughter the encircled Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk. Following Thursday’s call, Putin ordered these troops to surrender. After Tuesday’s call he clarified how Russia will deal with them once they surrender.
“In response to Trump’s recent request to ensure the safety of Ukrainian troops encircled in Kursk Region, Putin confirmed that Russia is guided by humanitarian considerations. He assured his counterpart that Ukrainian soldiers who surrender will be granted safety and treated in accordance with Russian laws and international humanitarian norms,” the Kremlin’s summary statement said.
Russia did voice concern regarding Ukraine continuing the hostilities toward it and urged the U.S. to once again cut Ukraine off.
“It was emphasized that a crucial condition for preventing further escalation and working toward a political-diplomatic resolution is the complete cessation of foreign military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine,” the Kremlin’s summary statement said.
The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt detailed the administration’s summary of the call.
