On Thursday President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy Keith Kellogg met with Ukrainian foreign minister Andrii Sybiha. The two are reported to have had a positive interaction and discussed ways to ensure a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia. The same day, Trump’s National Security Adviser Michael Waltz said that Ukraine must ‘tone down‘ rhetoric that is critical of the U.S. following Ukrainian dictator Vladimir Zelensky misleadingTrump on Ukraine’s natural minerals, claiming Trump is a Russian agent and blocking Trump’s Truth Social platform.
“It’s unacceptable, they [Ukraine] need to tone it down and take a hard look and sign that deal,” Waltz said Thursday, referencing the mineral deal Trump offered to Zelensky, who turned then it down. “We presented the Ukrainians really an incredible and a historic opportunity.”
Kellogg and Sybiha on the other hand discussed a long lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.
“I affirmed Ukraine’s willingness to achieve peace through strength and our vision for the necessary steps,” Sybiha said.
Following the meeting with Sybiha Thursday, Kellogg met with Zelensky. At the moment details from the meeting have not been reported.
On Tuesday Trump called Zelensky a dictator due to refusing to hold elections and remaining in office after his term expired.
