Injured victims, including American citizens, were rushed to U.S. hospitals after a gun battle broke out between rival cartels in a Mexican border town over the weekend, according to authorities.

The harrowing incident unfolded early on Saturday morning in Ciudad Miguel Aleman, located in Tamaulipas state across from Roma, Texas.

A group of between 15 and 20 tourists were “caught in crossfire between cartel groups,” leaving many wounded, News Nation correspondent Ali Bradley reported.

Victims later told Customs and Border Protection (CBP) “their vehicle was struck by a truck near the Mexican city of Miguel Aleman, after which, they received crossfire from a gun battle by unknown assailants.”

At least seven injured persons were brought across the border by Mexican ambulances via the Roma Port of Entry.

“The individuals, which included U.S. citizens, lawful permanent U.S. residents and a Mexican citizen were transported to local hospitals for treatment,” CBP explained in a statement.

Some reports indicate additional victims suffered injuries but were not brought to the U.S.

U.S. authorities have released limited information about the incident.

Tamaulipas officials have launched an investigation.

Chaos unfolds constantly along the U.S.-Mexico border, as Infowars regularly reports.
