A 10-year-old boy with a shocking rap sheet was arrested for driving a stolen vehicle across a busy school playground in Minnesota, authorities say.

The incident unfolded on September 20, but a video and details were just released on Friday by the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD).

Footage shows a sedan racing back and forth across the grounds at Nellie Stone Johnson School on the north side of Minneapolis.

The vehicle gets progressively closer to a playground packed with young children with each pass.

Staffers can be seen trying to gather the kids in a safer area, at one point even dodging the oncoming car.

The underage suspect was arrested and booked into Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center for probable cause 2nd degree assault.

“Police records indicate that the 10-year-old boy has at least 30 entries dating back to May 2023. He has been arrested at least twice before for auto theft related crimes. The boy is also listed as a suspect in more than 12 cases that range from auto theft to robbery to assault with a dangerous weapon,” MPD explained in a statement.

MPD Chief Brian O’Hara said the boy’s family is cooperating and has asked for help in managing their son.

“It is unfathomable that a 10-year-old boy has been involved in this level of criminal activity without effective intervention,” O’Hara said in a statement. “Prison is not an acceptable option for a 10-year-old boy. But the adults who can stop this behavior going forward must act now to help this child and his family.”

“This is only one example of the revolving door we’re dealing with – arresting and re-arresting the same juveniles for auto-theft and other violent crimes. This is a complex issue, and we need every entity involved in intervention to come together immediately to establish short- and long-term solutions.”
