Video shot over the weekend in London shows hundreds of people cramming into a massive queue to get into the department store Harrods after it reopened along with all other ‘non-essential’ stores last week.
The scenes highlight how utterly stupid the government’s restrictions on stores have been, as well as the staggered reopening, as now vast swathes of consumers are clamouring to get inside all at once, making a mockery of social distancing restrictions, which the government has repeatedly stated need to remain in place.
Similar scenes were witnessed at bars and pubs all over the country, as people crammed into outside areas and beer gardens after they were allowed to reopen.
Police have said that controlling the situation and continuing to enforce the restrictions they have been mandated to by the government is impossible.
Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation said “We are facing a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation still,” adding “How on earth are we supposed to police that?”
