Videos being shared online show aid efforts taking place in Lahaina, Hawaii as a local surfing legend known as “Uncle Archie” set up Starlink satellite receivers to Tesla power stations to provide internet access for those in need and turned his home into a community center filled with supplies.
Fox & Friends co-host Will Cain, who is from Maui, visited Uncle Archie Kalepa’s makeshift community center, highlighting how citizens can often provide for their peers better than the government.
The reporter thanked Elon Musk for his company’s equipment as it was able to power the devices needed to connect to the internet.
The LA Times described the scene as a “supply depot to rival those established by the government and aid organizations.”

In a video message, Kalepa said the scene was apocalyptic and that it looked like an atomic bomb went off.
Now, as part of the recovery process, Kalepa is gathering the community every evening for a group meal where they make plans and figure out their individual responsibilities.
Uncle Archie also warned of two tropical storms coming near the island soon that both have the potential to turn into hurricanes.
“I was trying to prepare myself not to cry. Not to be emotional. To be strong for everybody. The site was unrecognizable. It was like an atomic bomb went off…

Former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard was joined by professional surfer and Maui citizen Kai Lenny at Kalepa’s aid center to witness the ongoing efforts firsthand.
Locals described citizens from the small island of Molokai using fishing boats to bring supplies to Lahaina, but one man also listed several specific items that are still needed.

In a very powerful video, Uncle Archie described leaving a meeting run by the Democrat Hawaii Governor Josh Green where developers were reportedly clamoring to skip the usual permit process and begin building homes for locals in another area.
“You know what the truth of that is?” he asked. “They’re like fast-track the development and they’re not fucking helping the people over here. There was not one conversation in this meeting about the people. Every conversation that was had, every developer that came up there and talked about what they could offer was about getting rid of the permits so that they can steal water from our streams, they can fucking fast-track Westernization development and forget about the culture and place.”

MAUI STAND STRONG. Seeing the devastation the fire did to Lahaina yesterday was heartbreaking, it honestly did not look real but seeing our community come together as a team to give our people and land hope was unbelievable. I am so proud… pic.twitter.com/wo8N7QHVlE

The claims that Governor Green’s meeting was filled with developers looking to capitalize on the tragedy aligns with a Monday statement by the governor, who said, “I’m already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families, or make it open spaces in perpetuity as a memorial to the people who were lost.”
Kai Lenny told CBS Mornings he has yet to witness a single government official assisting at the donation hubs popping up on the island.
