Democrat Squad leader Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez disagreed with the outcome of the Daniel Penny subway chokehold case, claiming the jury’s verdict acquitting him of manslaughter enables people to commit violence on subways.
The New York congresswoman said Penny’s recent comments, agreeing he would restrain another dangerous subway passenger, signified he’s not remorseful over the incident and could pose a future threat.

“Well, you know, it doesn’t that, I just feel like that, that tells us everything,” AOC told a reporter.
“If we do not want violence on the subways and the point of our justice system is a level of accountability to prevent a person who does not have remorse about taking another person’s life.”
“I mean even people who have engaged in manslaughter or have taken a life accidentally express remorse,” she said, “and so the fact that a person has… expressed no remorse indicates that there’s a risk that that it may happen again, and if we do not want to unleash that level of violence, then we should exert a level of accountability to prevent that from happening again.”
X users blasted the progressive legislator for criticizing Penny’s heroic acts, rather than those of the violent subway passenger he restrained who was threatening other riders.
“AOC should go ride the New York subway alone at night,” wrote X user Viva Frei. “No private police protection. No personal protection. No one else on the car to come to her rescue. Do it @aoc – go ride the subway alone at night. Don’t be racist. Do it.”
“You’re a special kind of moron @AOC,” remarked conservative commentator Steven Crowder.
“AOC Is a dangerous psychopath,” commented podcast host Tim Pool. “She blames Daniel Penny for violence and not the drugged out schizo who threatened to kill people If you want to prevent violence stop defending violent people.”
The far-left congresswoman’s out-of-touch attitude, especially in light of the New York jury’s acquittal, demonstrates why Democrats lost the 2024 election.
