As the Canadian people rise up against their overreaching government, politicians and police officers are beginning to side with the populist movement.
Conservative MP Candice Bergen delivered an enthusiastic speech at the House of Commons on Tuesday, laying out the science proving lockdowns didn’t help prevent the spread of Covid before asking, “Will the prime minister follow the science, follow the evidence, end the restrictions, end the mandates?”
Trudeau responded with a generic statement about continuing to “follow the science” and improving Canadian lives.
Bergen told the prime minister that he’s “being divisive” and noted that many countries with lower vaccination rates than Canada have already dropped their Covid restrictions.
She said, “Canadians want their lives back. So again I ask the prime minister, will he follow the evidence? Will he follow the science? End the mandates. End the restrictions, quickly.”
Trudeau claimed he has been “following the science” and “had Canadians’ backs” throughout the pandemic and promised to continue following the same science he’s been using to lock down the country.
The prime minister then resorted to attacking the opposition party by saying, “I’m extremely pleased to hear the conservatives talking about following science, because that’s something they’ve fallen down on throughout this pandemic, whether it was not choosing to get vaccinated, whether it’s continuing to debate over the effectiveness of public health measures…”
During the same hearing, Conservative MP Pierre Marcel Poilievre said he wished the Liberal Party would “respect the thousands of people who are fighting for their livelihoods right now, and who are doing their best to get this country back on track.”
Poilievre continued, “This country right now is like a raw nerve, and the prime minister is jumping up and down on it again and again with his inflammatory rhetoric.”
The MP touched on the mental health stress placed on young Canadians due to lockdowns, workers who lost their jobs due to mandates and truckers who could lose theirs, saying, “These are the very people, honest, hardworking, shirt-off-your back type of people that the prime minister keeps attacking.”
Law enforcement officers in Canada are also going public with their disdain for their government’s recent actions.
Calgary Police officer Nick Motyka released a video on Wednesday, telling Canadians that as he watched Ottawa Police members seize fuel from the trucker protesters, he realized the officers are an arm of the politicians.
“I will never see my profession in the same light as I did before today,” he explained. “What I saw was the police doing politicians dirty work like hired goons. This goes against every reason why I chose this mostly thankless, difficult, traumatizing career with terrible hours.”
Motyka added, “The reason I got into law enforcement was to help people. However naive that was, it is my honest truth. As the years wore on, I’ll be the first to admit that I got jaded, but I never let anything compromise my integrity.”
The officer called the acts of the Ottawa police “so very wrong on so many levels,” adding that, “‘I was just following orders,’ is no longer an excuse. It is time to stand up and speak out by refusing to breach your fellow citizens’ fundamental charter rights.”
A Canadian police officer who moved to the country seeking freedom cried as she said her heart is broken after watching those freedoms fade away.
“Thank you truckers, thank you farmers, thank you people with open hearts and clear minds for standing up,” she told her fellow countrymen. “I know what decision I will make when I’m asked to follow an unlawful order. I’m for freedom of choice, for freedom of conscience, for freedom of speech, for freedom of expression, for freedom of communication, and I’m to serve, protect and to help out you people in Canada. Thank you.”
